Decomplicated Reflects a Voice of Change in Canadian Media

The daily news cycle keeps us informed, educated, and up to date on global events. But what started as informative outlets has grown into massive media corporations, operated with strict schedules, deadlines, and narratives. Much of what we read and hear is filtered through numerous people and edited to reflect a voice that we have come to know as modern media authority. Not all Canadian Journalists want this to be their voice.

Rumneek Johal and Carol Eugene Park are two Canadian journalists who saw an opportunity to forge their own path in today’s media landscape. Rumneek is a first-generation Punjabi-Canadian with past experience working with CBC Toronto and Daily Hive. Carol comes from a Korean family with previous experience with CBC Podcasts, the Globe and Mail, The Tyee, and Global News. As two young women-of-colour, they saw an opportunity to share their education, experience, and voice with the Canadian public through a different lens by creating a new podcast and newsletter series; Decomplicated.

Decomplicated brings forward current events in a digestible and fact-based format to keep listeners informed, curious, and inspired. Released in podcast format two times a week, along with a daily newsletter report, Decomplicated breaks free of the news cycle by providing authentic, fully-baked ideas and research.

Together, these two women are bringing new ideas to the table. From micro-dosing on psychedelic mushrooms to discussing inclusive language on international women's day, there’s nothing off-limits for Rumneek and Carol.
